Iran may supply gas through the Trans Anatolian Gas Pipeline (TANAP) in case prices and terms favorable for all project participants are defined, E&P and Natural Gas Market Specialist at Turkish company Petform Gokhan Sorus told reporters in Baku on April 24.
He said that in case Iran seeks to join TANAP the country will need to conduct large-scale work on establishing the appropriate infrastructure, for which the Islamic Republic will need huge investment.
"Iran has enough gas for diversified supplies to Europe, and TANAP has the ability to transit more gas than presently planned. First of all, favorable conditions should be created by the parties," Sorus said.
TANAP project envisages transportation of gas from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field to the western borders of Turkey. The gas will be delivered to Turkey in 2018 and after completion of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline's construction the gas will be delivered to Europe in early 2020.
The length of TANAP is 1,850 kilometers with an initial capacity of 16 billion cubic meters of gas. Around six billion cubic meters of this gas is meant to be delivered to Turkey, with the remaining volume to be supplied to Europe.
