SOCAR talks launch of bitumen plant at Baku refinery

A bitumen plant at the Baku oil refinery named after Heydar Aliyev is planned to be commissioned in September 2018, the advisor to vice-president on strategic development at Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR, Teymur Aliyev, told reporters on the sidelines of the 3rd SOCAR International Caspian and Central Asia Downstream Forum on Trading, Logistics, Refining and Petrochemicals in Baku April 23.

The stages of detailed design and procurement have already been completed, according to Aliyev.

The construction work has been completed by 76 percent, and the plant will be launched this September, Aliyev said.

Earlier it was reported that the bitumen plant will be put into operation in June 2018.

The project's cost is estimated at approximately 50 million euros.

The Baku Oil Refinery's modernization will be completed by 2022. The refinery's processing capacity will be increased from 6 to 8 million tons of oil per year.
