Anurag Kashyap on #MeToo movement: People only care about headlines
23 Apr 2018

Anurag Kashyap is known to be an opinionated filmmaker. Time and again, he has fearlessly expressed himself on various issues. Therefore, his silence on the #MeToo movement seems a bit odd.

However, the 'Dev D' director has now revealed that he did not speak up on the issue because people only care about the headlines and not about the movement.

Here's more on what he said.

Kashyap justifies Bollywood's silence
Details

Kashyap gave a reasoning for Bollywood's silence on the #MeToo movement. He said, "Anywhere, a campaign like this will be successful only when the victim speaks up. Then the people can stand up in support of the victim."

"If the victim won't speak up, then no one can speak because the others will be branded as disgruntled people trying to do rumor-mongering," he added.

Recounting his own unpleasant experiences, Kashyap stated, "When I was 19-years-old, I spoke about sexual abuse because I went through it. I also talked about it on Aamir Khan's show. So, it is not that I haven't spoken about it."

"Today, I have stopped talking because nobody really cares about the movement, everybody cares about the headline," he quipped.
