(MENAFN- KNN India) ONGC hints at setting up medium and small scale industries in natural gas sector
New Delhi, Apr 23 (KNN) In an attempt to address unemployment problem in Tripura, ONGC's Tripura Asset Manager GK Singha Ray hinted towards setting up medium and small scale industries based on natural gas.
Ray told the media that the setting up of natural gas based industries in Tripura is not promising as anticipated earlier.
Basing its argument on extensive exploration drive carried out at Khubal in (North Tripura), he said that 5 out of 6 wells went dry and also a reassessment report has been sent to Director General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) on the basis of 3D study inputs for taking action plans.
The ONGC will continue the drive to extract the best out of the potential and thus holding discussions with various firms to set up gas-based industrial units in Tripura, he added.
Further, he said that the gas pools in Tripura are like Zigzag rivers unlike other parts of the country as they change their course very often due to which geo-seismic studies fails to find the exact location of a gas field.
Pointing the small size of gas field due to small geographical area in Tripura, Ray said that the once the department receives the DGH signal, ONGC department will do their level best to extract gas in the region.
Also, he informed that the ONGC is going to start gas supply from Trishna exploration site by July 2019 to increase its gas supply capacity.
Admitting over the demand supply gap of natural gas to power plants, he said that the supply rate of gas has declined from 9% to 19% because of the decline in gas supply capacity of wells in Barmura region. (KNN/YV)
