(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: The death toll from a suicide attack on a voter registration centre in Afghan capital Kabul has mounted to 57, while 119 people are injured.
According to media reports, the dead include 21 women and five children. The blast happened when a large number of people were standing outside the gate of the voter registration centre in Kabul. The Public health ministry feared that the death toll might increase further as some of the injured were in critical condition.
Daesh militant group has claimed responsibility for the blast.
Vote registration centres have been opened in different parts of Afghanistan for the elections scheduled for October this year. The elections have already delayed by three years due to security concerns and experts believe that the fate of the elections still remain uncertain amid precarious security situation.
The Afghan government had already received reports about threat to the voter registration centres.
Pakistan strongly condemned the suicide attack in Kabul and expressed grief over the killing of innocent people.
The Foreign Office said in a statement that such attacks cannot deter the resolve of the Afghan nation to fight against terrorism.
