DOHA: Msheireb Downtown Doha project, which is the world's first sustainable downtown regeneration project, is 88 percent complete, said a senior official of Msheireb Properties yesterday.

'The whole project is being done in phases and the whole project will be completed by 2020, Lee Talbott, Director of Sales and Leasing at Msheireb Properties told The Peninsula speaking at its its pavilion at Cityscape Qatar.

With some areas of the project already operational including Msheireb mosque, Qatar Academy Msheireb (school), Msheireb prayer ground, Emiri Diwan and the acclaimed Msheireb Museums, 2018 is particularly exciting as new elements will be activated across a broad spectrum of exciting retail, residential and commercial options.

Those who sign new commercial leasing agreements this week will join an elite list of government entities and global and regional brands. This includes Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), who is moving all its business to MDD the new Financial City of Qatar, as well as flagship brands such as Novo cinemas and Al Meera. They are all part of the world's largest certified sustainable and smart downtown community, featuring 100 mixed-use buildings, 800 residential units, more than 300 retail units and 17 commercial buildings, in addition to four hotels, a school, three mosques, Msheireb Museums, the Galleria Mall and many other buildings.

The project's iconic Barahat Msheireb model is also on display.
