A 24-year-old Indonesian maid claims she was raped by a Malaysian policeman assigned to help her in a case involving physical abuse by her employer.

The domestic worker, who was employed in Malaysia, went to police for help after allegedly being physically abused by her employer. She reported her alleged abuse to officers at the Skudai police station and told them her employer had also confiscated her passport, China Press reported.

A 30-year-old police officer was assigned to accompany the maid to her employer's house in Bukit Indah during the early hours of Tuesday to retrieve her passport.

Instead of going to the employer's house, the officer stopped at a budget hotel in Kulai district in Johor where he threatened the woman, telling her he would not help her case unless she agreed to have sex with him.

The maid said she was frightened and reluctantly agreed to the officer's demands. She later lodged a police report at Senai district police headquarters on the same day and was taken to a hospital for a check-up. The officer was arrested.

Closed-circuit television footage confirmed that the maid and the policeman visited the hotel at the time the maid claimed the incident took place. The case is now being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code which covers rape.
