Iran jails 28 journalists last April


(MENAFN) A human rights report revealed that at least 28 Kurdish journalists have been detained by Iranian forces since last April.

According to Hangaw Organization for Human Rights, Iran had previously given a 30-year imprisonment sentence to a Kurdish journalist identified as Kamal Sharifi who has been in jail for ten years.

The source also said that a cameraman was also sentenced to six years and six months in prison.

April 22 marks the 120th anniversary of the Kurdish Journalism Day.

The first Kurdish newspaper was published in Cairo, Egypt in 1898 by Miqadad Baderkhan, a Kurdish literature figure.
