New Delhi, Apr 21 (KNN) In a bid to promote Khadi and Khadi made products at a global level, the khadi board is to organize a 20-minute textile event to project Khadi in modern and trendy style during the concluding session of 2 day India-South Africa Business Summit, as a ‘The Tribute to the Mahatma and Madiba (Nelson Mandela)'.

A renowned fashion designer of South Africa Gavin Rajah will choreograph this show, at Sandston Convention Centre in Johannesburg on April 30.

The program is being held in memory of 125 years of the Pietermaritzburg incident where Gandhi was thrown out of a train by White supremacists, along with Mandela's birth centenary.

Union Minister for Commerce, Industries and Civil Aviation, will also attend this Summit to extend further ties between India and South Africa. With the intent to double two-way bilateral trade and investment within 5 year period, the event seeks to showcase New India in South Africa.

Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena said that when Gandhi reached South Africa, a war against apartheid and British rule was started.

Khadi being the result of Mahatma Gandhi efforts to represent Swadeshi India, is now all set to bring economic freedom as the ‘Ahimsa Silk' by showcasing its purity and economic feasibility in the land of Madiba, the clan name of Mandela, said Saxena. (KNN/YV)
