24 Taliban, uprising leader killed in Faryab clashes


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) MAIMANA (Pajhwok): At least 24 Taliban militants and a key uprising commander have been killed during separate clashes in Kohistanat and Dawlatabad districts of northern Faryab province, officials said Thursday.

Abdul Rahman Pana, the Kohistanat€™s district administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that nearly 600 insurgents stormed security forces check-posts late on Wednesday night and the ensuing clash lasted till Thursday morning.

He said Suliman Rahmani, an uprising commander, and nine Taliban militants were killed in the clash.

Another seven attackers were wounded in the overnight clash, said Pana, who accused the government of negligence when it came to rebel attacks in the province.

On the other hand, Abdul Karim Yourash, provincial police spokesman, said that Taliban militants stormed uprising members€™ check-posts in Qarish locality of the Dawlatabad district on Wednesday night.

He said 15 Taliban militants were killed and five others wounded during the nighttime attack. Security forces and civilians suffered no causalities, he concluded.
