Romania's president dismisses moving embassy to Jerusalem claims

(MENAFN) After words circulating around Romania's decision to move its embassy from the holy city of Quds, Jerusalem, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, who has the final word on foreign policy issues, announced that his country is opposed to moving embassy to Holy Quds.

The Social Democratic Party leader Liviu Dragnea had not informed the Romanian president of attempts to relocate embassy, Sky News quoted Iohannis as saying in his statement.

"The President, as the maker of foreign policy decisions in Romania and as representative of Romania abroad in accordance with the constitutional provisions, reiterates that the constant position of our country regarding the Middle East Peace Process remains unchanged," a statement by Iohannis' office read.

Romania's position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is identical to that of the European Union of which it is a member, officials have said repeatedly.

In a controversial act, US President Donald Trump decided to recognize the Holy Quds as capital of the Zionist regime and ordered to relocate US embassy from Tel-Aviv to Quds on December 6. Recognizing the Holy Quds as capital of the Zionist regime is blatant violation of international resolutions and agreements and has so far been criticized by the international community.
