MEC booklet to ease process for foreign investors

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has issued a booklet in Arabic and English to provide all necessary information and data to potential investors in Qatar.

This was announced by MEC's Business Development and Investment Promotion Department director Abdul Basit al-Ajji at a discussion organised in co-operation with US-Qatar Business Council at Raleigh, North Carolina on Thursday for the members of the delegation taking part in Qatar's economic roadshow.
"The booklet includes all the information and data of interest to investors regarding the registration mechanism, and the various commercial sectors in the country," explained al-Ajji.
Also featured are addresses of all government entities related to investment. Issued periodically, the booklet would ease the process for foreign investors and introduce them to the basic economic scene in Qatar with the related laws, legislations and incentives.
The session reviewed how to create and facilitate business in Qatar. Discussed on the occasion were various related topics and how to benefit from the various business programmes in the US, and the ways to develop the export and import opportunities between the US and Qatar, in addition to the challenges that could encounter Qatari firms in the US. This was presented by Mohamed Barakat, executive Director of US-Qatar Business Council.
MEC's International Co-operation and Economic and Trade Agreements Department director Ahmed Ahen pointed out that a comprehensive guidebook will be issued in co-operation with Qatar Chamber, US-Qatar Business Council, Qatari Businessmen Association, and the government and private sector entities concerned, aiming at introducing foreign investors, and especially US investors on the investment opportunities in Qatar. It would be also available on the Internet.
Meanwhile, the third and final edition of the exhibition, which is part of Qatar's economic roadshow in the US, started Friday in Raleigh. The earlier editions of the exhibition were being held in Miami, Florida, and Charleston, South Carolina.
The event, which concludes on Saturday, has brought together representatives from major institutions in Qatar, including the MEC, Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Qatar Airways, Doha Film Institute and Qatar Foundation along with a number of US companies that have partnered in investment projects with Qatar, such as Occidental Petroleum, Boeing, ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips.
The exhibition is aimed at highlighting Qatar's cultural heritage and strong economic potential in addition to familiarising visitors with the major development projects that are being implemented to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030, including projects related to the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.
Through its special pavilion at the exhibition, the MEC seeks to outline the characteristics of Qatar's economy and to highlight the depth of the strategic Qatari-US partnership through interactive infographics that highlight the fundamentals of Qatar's business environment and showcase major Qatari investments in the US in addition to details of bilateral relations in various fields.
The exhibition features various educational and entertainment activities aimed at introducing the US public to Qatari culture, focusing on the different aspects of the country's rich heritage while also highlighting Qatar's educational and sports environment as well as the favourable investment climate and strong economic potential in a bid to promote the country and strengthen its position globally.
The event includes a number of innovative activities, such as a film trailer featuring computer generated models of six stadiums for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar and tablets that take visitors on a tour of the stadiums. Films including Dari Qatar by the Doha Film Institute and another film about Msheireb, Heart of Doha are also being screened.
The exhibition venue is also home to a football pitch where six football shows will be presented by professionals throughout the day.
As part of efforts to familiarise visitors with Qatari heritage, a Souq Waqif traditional tent whose exterior design is inspired by original Arab heritage, has been erected. The tent will host a number of activities, such as face painting inspired by the Qatari flag and Arabic calligraphy. Arabic coffee and dates will also be served to the guests.
