Pakistan- CJP summons CM Khattak in clean drinking water case


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar on Thursday heard public interest cases at the Peshawar Registry of the Supreme Court and summoned Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak and other officials.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by the chief justice and comprising Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard cases about clean drinking water facility, hospitals and educational institutions of KP.

The chief minister was summoned in the water case. During the hearing, the chief justice asked where the sewerage of the city goes. The chief secretary replied that it was being dumped into canals and rivers. The chief justice expressed concern over the statement and summoned the chief minister. He said he had heard that there was good governance in KP. He said why there was no dumping ground for waste in Peshawar.

The chief justice also visited the Al Razi Medical College and ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to seize the record of the college for receiving exorbitant fees from students.

KP Inspector General Police (IGP) Salahuddin Mehsud also appeared in court after he was summoned by the chief justice.

The CJP ordered the police chief to withdraw security to unauthorised persons immediately. The chief justice said those who have all the resources should make their own security arrangements.

The chief justice also visited the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), the largest hospital of Peshawar, and inspected various wards.

Justice Saqib Nisar was also scheduled to visit the KP Judicial Academy and address bar members.

The chief justice had earlier also held similar hearings in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan and summoned chief ministers for explanation.

However after the court ordered the provincial police chief to withdraw security from all unentitled officials, the IGKP took immediate action and issued a notification in which he ordered 3000 security personnel hired with unofficial people to withdraw their duties and to be back to the police department.

It read that 'all the Regional Police Officers, political & religious leaders, officers and others are advised to notify the police lines head quarter about the gunmen and security guards that they have hired'.
