Herat celebratory fire leaves 4 wounded


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) HERAT (Pajhwok): Four people were wounded in a celebratory gunfire last night in western Herat province, where police detained 13 people over robbery and other charges, an official said on Thursday.

Herat€™s Zonal Hospital spokesman Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai said they received one child and three men injured in celebratory fire from different parts of the province late on Wednesday night.

The people of Heart every celebrate 29thHamal of the Afghan cylinder to commemorate the entry of mujahideen under leadership of Mohammad Ismail Khan into Herat province after years of fighting with the Soviet Red Army.

The victory is celebrated every year by the people of Herat by holding ceremonies and firing into the air.

Police spokesman, Abdul Ahad Walizada, said five individuals had been detained in connection with the celebratory gunfire and were currently under investigation.

He also said suspected eight robbers and Taliban militants have been arrested in Pashtunkot district and Herat City.

Walizada added the detainees included five robbers accused of armed robberies in the city.

In Parwan, Noor Agha Samee, Sia Gard district administrative chief, told Pajhowk Afghan News that Taliban insurgents killed one individual and took away a second in Shahikehl village late on Wednesday.

He said both were ordinary workers and the village was unstable and under insurgents€™ control. There has been so far no word from Taliban in this regard.
