(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PARACHINAR: Member National Assembly from Kurram Agency Sajid Turi says the scheduled Pak-Afghan Jirga for demarcation of the border on Sunday has also been welcomed by the Afghan tribes.
Sajid Turi said at a press conference on Wednesday that besides elders from Turi tribe of Kurram Agency and local tribes of Khost province of Afghanistan, the civil and military leaders from both countries will also attend the Sunday's Jirga. He said the Jirga has been called by the tribal elders of Kurram Agency and political administration officials. He said both the sides want to end the dispute through peaceful means.
Talking to TNN after the press conference, Sajid Turi said every problem can be resolved through talks.
'War is no solution to every problem. Afghan elders gave a good response during Tuesday's talks, while our elders also want resolution of this problem. We will focus on determining our demarcation at the boundary to resume work on fencing of the border,' Mr Turi told TNN.
Tension escalated in the area after the Pakistani FC soldiers who were patrolling the border during fencing in Laka Tiga area came under attack from Afghan side three days ago. Five FC soldiers died in the attack and several others were injured. The Pakistani soldiers with the help of local tribesmen launched retaliatory attack in which several Afghan soldiers were killed and injured.
During the press conference, Sajid Turi expressed concern over the firing incident. He said the Afghan soldiers by opening fire on the Pakistan soldiers violated international laws.
Earlier, the Pakistani and Afghan military officials also jointly held a flag meeting at Pak-Afghan border in Torkham to discuss border management and other issues.
The Afghan side stressed the need of such meeting to be held every month so tension regarding border management is defused. The Afghan officials requested their Pakistani counterparts to keep Pak-Afghan border at Torkham open till 9:00pm to facilitate the travelers on both sides.
