CAIRO, 18th April, 2018 (WAM) -- The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, MBRGI, in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities and the UAE Embassy in Cairo, lit up the walls of the ancient citadel at Salah Al Din Al Ayyubi yesterday, with the logo of the Hope Makers Initiative, which is the leading initiative in Arab world that honours people of giving.
The ceremony, which saw the attendance of Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future and Secretary-General of the MBRGI, and Dr. Khaled Al Anani, Egyptian Minister of Antiquities, took place with place with the participation of over 87,000 hope makers.
Al Gergawi stated that the UAE dedicates the Hope Makers Initiative to every Arab citizen, who is capable of facing their challenges and promoting positivity in their community while pointing out that the initiative aims to encourage Arab youth to spread the culture of optimism and hope and combat pessimism and hopelessness, as well as to be productive and creative in their communities.
He stressed that the initiative's goal is to highlight examples of those who are positive in serving their nations. "We usually search for successful government personalities, who we aim to learn and benefit from. But through the Hope Makers Initiative, we aim to highlight examples of humanitarian giving, who our youth can learn from and make their role models," he added.
Regarding the lighting of the citadel, Al Gergawi said, "Egypt has a historic position in the hearts of every Arab. Egypt, with its giving, goodness and the Nile, has been a symbol of hope since the dawn of history. The citadel at Salah Al Din Al Ayyubi is a symbol of persistence and determination, which should be remembered by every Arab."
"We aim, through the lighting of the citadel, to remind everyone, of the importance of hope, and to remind of the Arab youth about role models who give for nothing in return, serve their country with positivity, and help their government to build their community," he further added.
The second edition of the initiative attracted considerable participation in Egypt, which is second, after Saudi Arabia, with 12 percent of the initiative's total participation, through various individual and organisational humanitarian and voluntary initiatives and projects.
The citadel at Salah Al Din Al Ayyubi is the second Arab monument to be lit with the Hope Makers logo after Al Rawsha Rock in Beirut, the most prominent natural landmark in the Lebanese capital, which was also lit with the logo in March.
