UAE- Apple 'recalls' Watch 2

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) If your Apple Watch Series 2 is acting funny, here's some good news: you can have it repaired for free.

Several news outlets have reported that the tech giant is offering this service for certain Series 2 units, which refuse to turn on or have a swollen battery, the latter of which can cause the screen to pop out or prevent it from powering on.

These issues first came to light with the first-generation Watch in 2015, though there have been instances reported in recent months.

According to an internal document first obtained by MacRumors, which was distributed to certain Apple Stores and authorised service providers, the repair covers only 42mm-sized Series 2 units covering all its models - Sport, Edition, Hermes and Nike+. The Watch line-up also comes in a smaller 38mm option.

"Apple has determined that under certain conditions, some Apple Watch Series 2 devices may not power on or they may experience an expanded battery," the new service policy says.

"Apple will authorise coverage for eligible devices for 3 years after the original date of purchase."

As at Press time, the policy has been issued in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe. Apple's public relations team in the UAE has not sent any statement.

But with the scope of the markets where the policy was released, it is likely that it will be a global rollout.

On Apple's support page on its website, it says that "many issues can be resolved" by restarting the Watch, which can be done by holding the side button, sliding power off on the screen, then once again holding the side button to switch it on.

Additionally, force-restarting the device, done by pressing and holding both the side button and digital crown for 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears. This, however, is only a "last resort" if the Watch is not responding.
