Lebanon: 2 ministers boycott LDE conference in Paris

(MENAFN) The National News Agency said Saturday that AMAL Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil and Public Works and Transport Minister Youssef Fenianos "boycotted" the Lebanese Diaspora Energy conference in Paris, inaugurated by Prime Minister Saad Hariri.

On the reasons for not attending, Khalil said Lebanese ministers and several figures are in Paris for the CEDRE international donor conference that was held on Friday.

"We are here in Paris for the CEDRE meeting that concerns the entire country of Lebanon. We will wage our electoral battles back home. We can manage to run the voting of emigrants with our own resources, not those of the State's," he said, hinting at claims that some candidates are making use of their influence for electoral purposes.

Fenianos for his part, said: "We are against conferences that exploit the influence of people and political parties for electoral purposes. We are also against exploiting expatriates in the election campaign," he said.
