(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Abu Dhabi Police have urged people to ensure that the doors of their homes are locked properly and to keep their valuable items in secure safe boxes when traveling for holidays to protect them from theft and damage.
Through their social media accounts, Twitter and Instagram, the police said citizens and residents traveling abroad for long holidays should be keen on the safety of their homes.
The force has, in the past, reported many cases of theft and house break-ins especially during summer months when many people were away from their homes for holidays.
"People should use safer locking systems for the houses and keep valuable items in secure safe boxes for protection against theft," the police said on Twitter. "People travelling to visit friends and families should not leave their homes unsecured. They should lock the doors of their houses firmly and properly for security and protection during their absence."
The force also said that families that travel for long holidays should ask relatives to remove newspapers and advertisement brochures left at the house's doorsteps daily. "Families should also leave outside security lights on to suggest there is activity around the house," police said.
People have also been advised not to leave their valuables and jewellery in obvious places, which makes them vulnerable to theft when they travel abroad.
Police also urged shop owners to secure their stores by locking the doors properly and also install security systems and surveillance cameras at the shops to protect them from robbers.
