Air India to Israel for first time using Saudi airspace

(MENAFN) Marking a historic first, Saudi Arabia opened its airspace for the first time to a commercial flight to Israel with the inauguration of an Air India route between New Delhi and Tel Aviv.

The plane flew over Oman, Saudi Arabia and Jordan before landing at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion International Airport, according to tracking site Flightradar.

The flight took off from New Delhi at 6.10 p.m. local time and completed the 2,520-mile journey in a little over seven hours, according to CNN.

The aircraft, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, carried 110 passengers to Tel Aviv, the spokesperson added. The return flight from Tel Aviv had 200 passengers on board.

As other Arab nations, Saudi Arabia does not recognize Israel but lifting a 70-year-old airspace ban reflects the normalization with the Zionist entity, those two mentioned parties are strong allies for the US in the region.
