Filipino maid testifies in Dubai murder case

(MENAFN- Asia Times) A Filipino domestic worker has testified in a Dubai Criminal Court case in which a 26-year-old Pakistani student stands accused of stabbing an Emirati friend to death with a pair of scissors.

The maid, 39, who works for the defendant's family, told the court that the student invited his friend to his house in Umm Al Sheif, a residential area of Dubai, on August 5 last year, The National reported.

She said that around 3pm, she heard the Emirati screaming the defendant's name. She went to see what was happening and saw the Emirati bleeding heavily from the neck, the court heard.

'I felt scared, so I woke the defendant's uncle up and then locked myself in my room,' the maid said.

The Pakistani student had allegedly grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed his friend in the neck.

Police arrived and sent the victim to a hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. The police arrested the suspect two days after the incident.

On Wednesday at the Dubai Court of First Instance, the suspect pleaded not guilty to murder, claiming that he had not intended to kill the victim but only wanted to frighten him, Khaleej Times reported.

The next hearing will be on April 8.
