Tourism has turned into a social movement, says Menon


(MENAFN- Bangladesh Monitor) Dhaka : Tourism has turned into a social movement. Rashed Khan Menon, Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, said this while addressing a press conference at Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) office in the city on February 16.

The press conference was organised to enable Alamgir Ahmed Chowdhury and his wife Chowdhurani Dipali Ahmed narrate their experiences to journalists. The couple toured 64 districts of the country on a motorcycle from October 29, 2016 to January 19, 2017.

The couple made a video presentation on their journey before the journalists.

BTB helped the couple undertake the journey across the country under the government-declared 'Visit Bangladesh' campaign.

'We have to encourage domestic tourism further,' Menon said, adding 'Bangladesh is now well-accepted in different international forums like United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), PATA and OIC.'

'A number of international events on tourism has been organised in Bangladesh and more will be done in the future.'

The couple told journalists that during their 84-day tour, they met local public representatives, District Commissioners, different stakeholders, students; took photographs of different historical and natural attractions and traditional food items of the districts and uploaded information – along with photographs and videos – about those in the Internet through different social media including Facebook, Youtube, etc.

Akhtaruz Zaman Khan Kabir, the outgoing CEO and Dr Md Nasir Uddin, the incoming CEO, BTB were present at the press conference, also attended by tourism stakeholders.
