UAE- Man fights for life after gas cylinder explosion in Sharjah

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A 32-year-old Asian is fighting for his life after he received serious burns on Tuesday, when a gas cylinder exploded at his accommodation on a farm in Al Dhaid area.

The police said that the blast occurred after cooking gas leaked from the cylinder in the kitchen. The worker left the gas cylinder unlocked, which caused the gas to fill up the room and cause the explosion. The walls cracked and collapsed under the impact.

The man works as a guard at the farm. A coworker said that the injured worker did not sense the gas leak and tried to light the stove, which caused the explosion.

The police operations received a call and immediately dispatched ambulance and teams to the farm, where they found the worker unconscious. He was rushed to Al Dhaid Hospital, where he is currently in the ICU.

A source at Al Dhaid Hospital said that the worker has suffered burns on most parts of his body, and has been put on the artificial respiratory system.

The authorities have urged the public to monitor and safeguard their gas cylinder and shut it off at all times when not in use. Extra precaution must be taken in kitchens and restaurants where more than one cylinder is used.

Gas cylinder accidents cause serious injuries and heavy loss of life and property, the police warned. In the event of a gas leak and smell, occupants are asked to immediately vacate the premises and contact the nearest civil defence centre.
