Substation activated, Gardez gets imported power


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Around 2,400 power consumers in Gardez, the capital of southeastern Paktia province, were on Tuesday connected with permanent imported electricity supply from Tajikistan, an official said.

Mohammad Asif Niyazi, Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS) head for Paktia, told Pajhwok Afghan News all those families and governments who in the past used diesel-based electricity would now use hydropower.

Governor Abdullah Hasrat said the sub-station would be formally inaugurated in coming days in presence of high level officials.

Alya, a resident of Gardez, told Pajhwok Afghan News she was happy over the permanent electricity supply.

Sediqullah Sediqui, a shopkeeper in Gardez, said businesses would improve with the new electricity.

€œThe world is developing by the virtue of electricity, power is the baseline of development and prosperity,€ he said.

It is worth mentioning that the construction of Machalgho Dam in Ahmadabad district and Narai Khwli Dam in Ahmadkhelo district has been approved and the construction works would soon be launched.
