(MENAFN) The capital of Afghanistan, Kabul has been hit with a suicide bombing attack in close proximity to a Shi'ite shrine, causing over 29 deaths and several injuries.
Amaq news agency declared the Islamic State to have been behind the attack, as the Taliban released a statement to reject any links to it.
The bombing has occurred while Kabul was in the midst of its Nawruz holiday, celebrating the Persian new year.
Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danesh confirmed "we had our security in place in and around the shrine," he added "all the casualties were young people who were either passing by on the road or gathering to enjoy Nawruz."
