Turkey: 24,500 users download Uber app in 10 days

(MENAFN) Amid tensions between traditional taxicab drivers and Uber drivers, downloads of the Uber app in Turkey has risen fivefold in 10 days, daily Haberturk reported on March 21.

In the 10 days up to March 21 some 24,500 users downloaded the application on their smartphones, according to the report.

This comes amid angry protests by taxi drivers in Istanbul against Uber, as well as a number of physical attacks from taxi drivers targeting Uber drivers.

Uber provides a more expensive service to customers in Turkey which makes the competition between traditional taxis and Uber in Turkey largely based on quality rather than price, with many locals complaining of poor service provided by taxi drivers.
