PESHAWAR: The red and black hat being worn by Pashtun Tahafuz Movement head Manzoor Pashteen has scaled new heights of popularity for it has become an instant favourite among Pakhtun youth.
Salar Ahmad, a close friend of Manzoor, said that he received the hat from a labourer in his hometown of Sarwakai area of South Waziristan when he was a student.
'Manzoor gave the worker his new hat and took the worn red and black one in exchange,' said Salar Ahmad.
Salar wants the hat to become a symbol of PTM and every youth wear it while attending any public gathering. His wish seems to have been fulfilled, for many youth now wear it as gesture of love for Pashteen and his cause.
'For me this hat is more precious than diamonds and gold and I wear it as gesture of respect for Manzoor and his cause,' said Sirajuddin, a resident of Bara, Khyber Agency.
He said he saw Manzoor wearing the hat and since than he was searching for it and finally found it. The hat has become a source of income for many vendors, for it has become something of a symbol.
'Many youth who support PTM is buying it without asking for its price, for they consider it a symbol of the movement, a sacred cause to fight for the rights and protection of Pakistan's ethnic Pashtun citizens,' said Muhammad Ali, a vendor.
He said he saw the cap and thought why not sell it to youth who came to attend a gathering held here in Bara, few days ago. 'PTM has no flag or political symbol therefore we want to make this hat as a symbol of the movement,' he said.
Most of vendors, selling the hat are not selling the hats at exuberant prices rather selling it selling it at its retail price so that maximum youth purchase it.
