West Indies middle-order batsman Marlon Samuels has received a warning and has been handed one demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.

Samuels was found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

This incident happened during the ICC World Cup Qualifiers match against Zimbabwe on Monday.

Why did Samuels receive a warning?

The senior West Indies batsman violated Article 2.1.8 of the ICC Code which states, "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match". He damaged the 30-yard circle disk with his bat, after being dismissed.

Samuels accepted the charges and the sanction levied by match-referee Graeme La Brooy, which means there will be no formal hearing.

The demerit point will remain active for a year. Four more points could see the player suspended.

The player, who scored a quick-fire 86 off 80 balls, helped his team beat Zimbabwe to strengthen their chances of qualifying the 2019 mega event.
