Mississippi enacts tightest abortion restrictions in US

(MENAFN) The governor of Mississippi has passed a bill that allows for the strictest abortion law the US has witnessed.

The passed law makes it illegal for abortions to be carried out after 15 weeks of pregnancy pass, even if the pregnancy was a result of cases like rape.

The bill however grants exceptions for termination if a foetal abnormality that is "incompatible with life" occurred or if the life of the mother was at risk.

Republican Governor Phil Bryant has signed the bill on Monday, as he aspires for Mississippi to be "the safest place in America for an unborn child".
