(MENAFN- Asia Times) A Filipino maid's son has become the top graduate in his class at the Philippine National Police Academy and will receive several awards from President Rodrigo Duterte during his graduation ceremony.
Fritz John Vallador, 24, whose mother is a domestic worker in Spain, will receive the Presidential Kampilan Award and Plaque of Merit from President Duterte on March 23, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.
Vallador said his mother had worked in Spain since he was in grade 5 and he never met his biological father. He said despite his parents' absence, he persevered and became successful because of his mother's sacrifices.
'Even though I don't have a father, I achieved this with the inspiration of my mother,' Vallador said.
He said his mother would not be able to attend his graduation because of her work, but his aunt, who took care of him since his mother went to Spain, would be there.
The graduation ceremony will be held at Camp Mariano Castaneda in Silang, Cavite.
