(MENAFN- Trend News Agency ) At least two people were killed in an explosion triggered by a roadside bomb, Improvised Explosive Device, in capital Kabul today, The Khaama Press reports.
According to the security officials, the incident took place at around 7 am local time in the vicinity of Paghman district.
Deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Interior Nusrat Rahimi said two civilians were killed after a roadside bomb went off in Deh Ponba village.
He said at least one civilian also sustained injuries in the explosion but it is yet not clear who was the target of the attack.
No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility behind the explosion.
The anti-government armed militant groups including Taliban insurgents frequently use Improvised Explosive Device as the weapon of their choice to target the security forces and government officials.
However, in majority of such attacks the ordinary civilians are targeted besides the roadside bombings claims the lives of the militants and the security personnel.
A total of 10,453 civilian casualties – 3,438 people killed and 7,015 injured – were documented in the 2017 Annual Report released last month by the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and the UN Human Rights Office.
The report further added that the high number of casualties to the civilians were inflicted by suicide bombings and other attacks using improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
