5 police killed, 2 wounded in Ghazni attack


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Five policemen were killed and two others wounded in a Taliban attack on their check-post in southern Ghazni province on Sunday, an official said.

Ghazni police chief Brig. Gen. Mohammad Zaman told Pajhwok Afghan News the early morning attack took place in Qala Qazi area.

He said the Taliban also suffered casualties but exact figures were not immediately known.

However, Mohammad Mustafa, a resident of the area, said the Taliban were claiming they had captured the post. The resident said he had no information about casualties in the clash.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid also confirmed to Pajhwok the fighters had captured the checkpoint area.

He said eight police personnel were killed and their weapons seized in the attack. Only one militant was wounded, Mujahid concluded.
