This WhatsApp hack makes the 'Disable blue ticks' feature useless!
18 Mar 2018

WhatsApp launched its blue ticks feature in 2014 that allows users to know when someone has read their messages, by turning the grey double ticks on their message blue.

For those who don't support being told on by WhatsApp, the chat app also provided an option to disable the feature. However, a work-around has been discovered regarding that.

Here are the details.

Just send a voice note on WhatsApp
The Hack

It has come to light that there is a hack for getting to know if someone has read your messages, even if the recipient has disabled read receipts.

You just need to send them a voice note.

Disabling the blue ticks feature does not work on voice notes, so once your voice note is played, the grey double ticks on it will turn blue.

Turning off blue ticks don't work in group chats either
Details

The simple hack can let the sender know that their messages have been seen.

In its FAQs section, WhatsApp explains that turning off read receipts also doesn't work for group chats either, where when a message has been read by every member of the group, the double ticks on it turn blue.

Further, there is no way to turn these settings off.

Bonus hack: You can read messages after they are deleted
Loopholes Galore

Another loophole was recently discovered in the chat app regarding its Delete feature.

WhatsApp allows users to delete messages after sending them. However, users can still retain deleted messages by selecting the particular message and sending it as quoted text.

After that, even if the message is deleted, it will appear in the form of a quote in the conversation.
