All England Open: Prannoy loses to world number 42 Yuxiang

HS Prannoy's run at the 2018 All England Open came to an end after the shuttler was beaten by world number 42 Huang Yuxiang.

The Chinese player beat Prannoy in three games winning the duel 20-22, 21-16, 23-21.

Prannoy saw Yuxiang snatch the momentum and the tie in a closely fought encounter that lasted for an hour and 17 minutes.


How did the match unfold?

In the first game, Yuxiang won the opening duels and opened up a six-point lead. But Prannoy fought back to equalise at 12-12.

Yuxiang led 20-18, but Prannoy came back to seal 22-20.

Yuxiang took command in the second game and did not allow Prannoy a comeback to pocket it 21-16.

Prannoy took a 16-10 lead in the third, but surrendered from there on.

It was a classic encounter between two of badminton's most prestigious players. Veteran Lin Dan overpowered his friend and biggest rival Lee Chong Wei 21-16, 21-17 in straight games. Six-time All England Open champion Dan won the duel in 52 minutes.
