Oman- Muttrah heritage festival begins tomorrow


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The 15-day Muttrah Tourism and Heritage Festival that aims to revive the history of Muttrah will be organised at the Al Medina Theatre in Qurum Natural Park. The festival will begin from Wednesday under the patronage of H E Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Mantheri, chairman of the State Council.

The official opening of the festival will be held on Friday. H E Sayyid Ahmed bin Hilal bin Saud al Busaidi, Wali of Muttrah and chairman of the organising committee of the festival explained how the diverse events planned seek to revive the heritage, tourism, entertainment and culture of the wilayat.

At the press conference on Sunday, H E Busaidi said that the festival, which will continue till March 28 will feature an operetta at the opening ceremony. 'The operetta titled, The Story of Muttrah, will narrate the story of the wilayat in the past and in the present, as it enjoys the achievements of the Blessed Renaissance established by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.'

He added that the seven-part operetta will see participation of traditional artistes, students from a number of schools in the wilayat and Arab and foreign communities residing in the sultanate.

A highlight of the festival will be participation of the Royal Navy of Oman vessel, Shabab Oman. 'Riyam Park in Muttrah will host many events. As part of this, 80 families and 45 craftsmen specialised in traditional Omani heritage crafts will showcase their skills,' said H E Busaidi.
