Dubai launches an awareness campaign to support the global fight against drug abuse

DUBAI, 10th March, 2018 (WAM) -- Over 100 classic cars took to the streets during Hemaya Ride, a parade that started from "City Walk" in Dubai on Friday, to raise awareness about the launch of the 13th edition of the "Hemaya International Forum and Exhibition on Drug Issues," being held under the theme "Foreseeing the Future of the Global Combat of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances: Predictions, Preparations and Prevention Strategies for 2030."

Hemaya Ride was attended by Lt. Colonel Dr. Abdurrahman Sharaf, Acting Director of the International Training Service Centre and General Coordinator of the Hemaya Forum, Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Chairman of INDEX Holding, a number of officers, and more than 100 participants from different cities in the UAE and the GCC.

The Hemaya International Forum and Exhibition, which is taking place on 12th and 13th March at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, is being held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council. It is one of the most important events organised by the Dubai Police and INDEX Conferences & Exhibitions, in co-operation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and a number of regional and international partners. This year, the Hemaya International Forum will focus on issues related to drug addiction, as well as find effective solutions to combat and prevent the prevalence of drug abuse in our communities.

Commenting on the occasion, Dr. Madani said, "We are very pleased with the participation of various government agencies and supporting bodies along with a number of community members in this initiative towards combating drug addiction in our communities and we look forward to highlighting this very important topic in the Hemaya International Forum on Drug Issues, this year. It is extremely important to raise awareness about the negative impact of drug addiction and the dangers associated with drug abuse in our communities and we fully support the preventive efforts of the global community, concerned bodies and various stakeholders in their fight towards eradicating the menace of drug abuse in the UAE and abroad.

"The 13th edition of 'Hemaya International Forum and Exhibition on Drug Issues' in Dubai is expected to attract over 1,200 visitors and participants from the region and the world and will discuss the latest developments in the field of drug control and prevention while also developing a scientific approach to deal with drug abuse and addiction in our society."

Hemaya Ride was organised by INDEX Media a member of INDEX Holding and supported by Dubai Police, Dubai Cooperation for Ambulance Services, Directorate General of Civil Defence, Roads and Transport Authority, and Emirates Motor Sports Federation.
