Retaining wall costing 26m afs constructed in Samangan


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) AIBAK (Pajhwok): Construction of a retaining wall-- costing 26 million afghanis provided by World Bank (WB) - has been completed in northern Samangan province, an official said on Saturday.

The 867metres long, thee-metres high and 1.2 metres wide wall had been built in Dara Zhondon Aibak village near Samangan River, the rural rehabilitation and development director said.

Eng. Mohammad Yaseen Zaheen Far told Pajhwok Afghan News the retaining wall would protect hundreds of private properties and dozens of acres of land from floodwaters. The project accounted for of 26 million afs from the World Bank.

Abdul Ghafar, a resident of the area, said he had lost 1.5 acres of land to seasonal floods. He expressed happiness over the building of the wall, which would enable him to sow crops on his farms.
