(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Counternarcotics, in cooperation with police, on Sunday picked 200 drug addicts from various areas in Kabul and handed them over to a NATO camp for treatment, an official said.
Mohammad Hanif Danish Yar, spokesman for the ministry, told a press conference here some of the addicts were taken to the Camp Qargha, formerly known as Camp Phoenix, voluntary and others by force from different areas of the 6th police district of Kabul.
Some of the addicts were not willing to be treated but later agreed after being nicely behaved. They were shifted to the Pul-i-Charkhi rehabilitation center in ambulances.
The Ministry of Counternarcotics has been also working to deal with the issue of increasing drug addicts by taking them to rehab centers, launching campaigns for general awareness.
Shamshad Khan has been using drugs for the last 46 years. His eldest son is 35 years old.
Khan said: €œThis is my second time going to a rehab center to quit the habit of using drug. I returned to the habit after first time treatment because of social problems€.
A 2014 survey puts the population of drug addicts in Afghanistan at more than three million.
