IOC votes against lifting Russia ban from Winter Games

(MENAFN) A unanimous vote has been carried out by the International Olympic Committee to not suspend a ban on Russia from participating in the Winter Olympics.

The vote entails the 168 players that are participating as "Olympic Athletes from Russia" (OAR) to not be allowed to march under Russia's flag during the Olympics' closing ceremony.

IOC President Thomas Bach declared "the IOC executive board decided first not to lift the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee for the closing ceremony."

He continued "therefore, no delegation of the Russian Olympic Committee will have taken part in these Olympic Winter Games."
