Italy hit with demonstrations ahead of polls

(MENAFN) Italy has been swamped with protestors from far-right and anti-fascist one week ahead of the general election's clash with authorities.

Milan's police have scattered batons, while left-wing protesters attempted to infiltrate a cordon.

Italy's security was deemed as a "sacred duty" by the anti-immigration League party's leader Matteo Salvini.

Opinion polls indicated, with the final week of the election campaign approaching, that the right-wing Forza Italia party is ahead.
