MME to celebrate Qatar Environment Day tomorrow

DOHA: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment will celebrate the Qatar Environment Day 2018 under the slogan 'Our Environment Our Heritage, tomorrow.

Various activities will be held to mark the Day at Al Maida area in Al Shamal in the presence of senior officials of the Ministry, said a Ministry in a statement. The activities will be related to the environment such as cleaning and landscaping. Workshops will be held to educate people about recycling. Local agricultural produce will be also showcased. A number of entertainment programme for children such as horse and camel rides will take place.

Minister of Municipality and Environment, H E Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi said that observing Qatari Environment Day underlines the keenness of the country to protect the environment of the country and its natural resources that is a key priority of the Ministry. He said that the move comes within the framework of the implementation of the fourth pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030 to achieve sustainable environmental development.

The Minister pointed out that it is a collective responsibility of citizens and expatriates to protect the environment of the country and its resources for the people and coming generation.

He also praised the importance of environmental legislation to support efforts to preserve the environment. The Ministry issued a law regulating the hunting of animals, birds and wild reptiles.

It issued a law on the protection of wildlife and its natural habitats, as well as the law to prevent fishing in times of reproduction to protect the strategic reserve of fish. The country has also signed regional and international agreements regarding the protection of the environment for saving plants and animals.
