Ruling party submits voter signatures to Azerbaijan's CEC to register Ilham Aliyev's candidacy (UPDATE)

The ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) has submitted the voter signatures collected for the registration of Ilham Aliyev's candidacy to the post of Azerbaijani president, along with the required documents, to the Central Election Commission (CEC) in accordance with the requirements of the Election Code and the CEC instructions, said a message posted on the website of the ruling party.

According to the requirements of Azerbaijan's Electoral Code, a candidate must collect at least 40,000 voters' signatures from at least 60 electoral districts each. At least 50 signatures must be collected in each electoral district.

In each of the existing 125 electoral districts, the party successfully completed a signature collection campaign in support of presidential candidate Ilham Aliyev.

The 6th congress of the NAP was held in the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku Feb. 8. The decision was made during the congress to nominate chairman of the party Ilham Aliyev as a presidential candidate. The decision was unanimously adopted.

The presidential election will be held in Azerbaijan on April 11, 2018.
