Lankan export board to address issues of women exporters on World Women's Day


(MENAFN- NewsIn.Asia) Colombo, February 23 (newsin.asia): The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) will be organizing a day-long workshop on March 8, World Women's Day, to address issues faced by Sri Lankan women exporters.

A press statement from the chairperson of the EDB, Indira Malwatte, said that there are 800 women exporters registered with the EDB's Women's Cell who are producing and/or exporting wide variety of products and services. But a study of them has revealed that they face a variety of issues which must be addressed without delay to make them stay in the field and ensure the sustainability of their markets.

To shine a light on these issues and address them, the EDB plans to bring together women entrepreneurs, relevant institutions and other stakeholders for a workshop to be held at EDB Tower on Nawam Mawath in Colombo 2 on March 8 which is also the World Women's Day.

The workshop is designed to help participants develop export strategies, get introduced to service providers, to present their strategies to their peers and get recognized and rewarded for good work.

The principal speakers will be, the Chairperson of the EDB, Indira Malwatte and the Secretary to the Ministry of Development Stategies and International Trade and Chandani Wijewardena. There will be a video conference with an Australian exporter Tammy Barton of mybudget.

Individual entrepreneurs and service producers will share their experiences and who they overcame issues through presentations. Prizes will be awarded for the best women entrepreneurs.
