Bengaluru: Citizens ask for better focus on roads, sanitation

A recent survey carried out by a non-profit organization showed that city people want the civic bodies to improve the situation of roads and drivability. Health and sanitation was the next category that saw quite a lot of inputs.

The survey, compiled by Janaagraha, was conducted ahead of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) budget that will get presented in March.

The campaign received over 26,000 inputs from citizens. The report has been handed over to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike.

Sapna Karim, head (Civic Participation), Janaagraha said, "In first such campaign we had received 67,114 inputs. Of these, 22% were included in the projects for implementation. Those inputs which were not included last year have been added in this year's report."

21% of citizens pinned roads and drivability as the top area of improvement. Health and sanitation came a close second at 19% while footpaths and walkability, a rare commodity nowadays, got the vote of 18% of citizens.

N Manjunath Prasad, BBMP commissioner said that each corporator gets Rs .2-3 crore for works and that steps to include citizen's demands will be taken up.
