US considers Russia sanctions

(MENAFN) The Trump administration is thinking about new sanctions against Russia over interfering in 2016 election and a devastating cyber attack last year. Both Republicans and Democrats in the US Congress have criticized President Trump for not punishing Moscow and accused him of being soft on his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, which came after Trump decided not to announce any sanctions against Russia.Three senior administration officials involved in sanctions work said some sanctions had already been imposed against two Russian entities cited last week in a 37-page indictment from US Special Counsel Robert Mueller about Russia's meddling in the 2016 presidential election.According to them, a review was well under way at what more can be done in response to the interfering, as they are also looking ahead to the potential for tampering in the 2018 midterm congressional elections next November.
