Oman- State Council committee hosts MoE officials


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Education and Research committee of the State Council on Tuesday continued discussing the role of education in supporting a knowledge-based economy as part of its study.

The meeting chaired by H E Dr Abdullah bin Mubarak al Shanfari, head of the committee, hosted H E Dr Hamoud bin Khalfan al Harthi, Undersecretary for Education and Curriculum and Dr Bader bin Hamoud al Kharoosi, director general, Directorate General for Human Resources Development, Ministry of Education.

A press release stated that during the meeting, various aspects related to the development of the education system were addressed in support of the knowledge-based economy. It also looked at ways to strengthen various parts of the education system, the extent to which the dimensions of the knowledge-based economy are included in the curriculum, and application of strategies, laws and legislation in the sultanate.

It discussed the role of the professional development of human cadres in the education field in achieving a knowledge-based economy, the reflection of the knowledge-based dimensions of the economy on the aspects of student education, training, personality advancement and challenges.

H E Dr Harthi explained that the ministry was endeavouring to align education with requirements of the next phase. Dr Kharoosi addressed the relationship of education to the production of knowledge, reviewed the steps that have been accomplished to develop the competence of teachers as the primary driver of any development in the educational process.
