(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Authority for Electricity Regulation (AER) on Wednesday announced that it has issued preliminary qualification confirmation letters to bidders, interested in participating in tendering process of the proposed 500MW solar project in Ibri.
'Confirmation of compliance is a legal requirement for any entity to hold a license issued by the Authority', AER said in a press release.
The letter issued by the authority is considered as mandatory for any bidder who is interested in submitting the request for qualification issued by the Oman Power and Water Company (OPWP), AER added.
The deadline for submission is February 22 and the Authority has issued confirmation letters to 20 potential bidders.
'We are extremely pleased with the level of interest expressed by internationally experienced solar project developers that have also partnered with local companies,' said Qais Saud al Zakwani, executive director and member at AER.
Zakwani said, 'We have been inundated with questions and clarifications by developers that will be participating for the first time in Oman.
The Authority remains confident that the competition for this project will yield the most economical outcome and has a duty to ensure the competition is conducted in a fair and transparent manner and works hard to maintain the credibility of the tendering process.'
Last year, OPWP announced the launch of Oman's first large utility-scale solar independent power project (IPP). The total capacity of the proposed solar IPP will be 500MW and it will be located at Ibri.
According to OPWP, plant output will be sufficient to supply an estimated 33,000 homes with electricity and offset 340,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year.
'The 500MW Ibri Solar IPP is the first in a number of renewable projects that Oman will be developing in the near future and we have ensured that the building blocks from Oman's successful IPP programme are retained for this project', AER said.
