The International Association of HealthCare Professionals is pleased to welcome Itzhak Avital, MD, MBA, FACS, to their prestigious organization with his upcoming publication in The Leading Physicians of the World. He is a highly-trained and qualified surgical oncologist with a vast expertise in all facets of his work, particularly hepatobiliary surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy. Dr. Avital has been practicing for over eleven years and is currently serving patients as Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Saint Peter's University Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. Earlier in her career, he was Head of the Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary Malignancies Section, Surgery Branch of the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Avital is also Executive Medical Director of Bon Secours Cancer Institute at Bon Secours Richmond Health System.
Dr. Avital acquired his medical degree at New York University School of Medicine in 1997. He also completed his surgical residency training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, his research fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, his surgical oncology and hepatobiliary fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Dr. Avital has obtained an MBA at The George Washington University - School of Business in 2015 and is currently a PhD Candidate in Integrative Medicine for Cancer. He is board certified in general surgery and surgical oncology by the American Board of Surgery. He maintains professional memberships with the American Medical Association, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Transplant Association. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and credits his success to never giving up and believing in God. Dr. Avital dedicates her spare time to cooking.
