Australia have made the number one T20 rank their own after beating New Zealand by 19 runs via D/L method in the tri-series final.

The Aussies dethroned Pakistan from the top rank.

After New Zealand posted 150/9, Australian batsmen made light work of the target scoring 121/3 in 14.4 overs before rain stopped the play.

New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first.

Things looked bright for the Black Caps, when Guptill and Munro got then off to a flying start.

However, Australian bowlers stuck and sent Guptill back to the pavilion.

New Zealand failed to recover and kept losing regular wickets but Ross Taylor's valiant innings and Ish Sodi's resilience took them to 150/9.

Rain halted play in between but play was resumed after a short delay.

Australia lost 3 quick wickets giving the hosts some hope but Maxwell and Finch held their never to take Australia to 121/3 in 14.4 overs before rain abandoned play.

This is the first time, Australia have scaled the number one ranking in T20Is.

Australia started the tournament at a lowly world number 7.

The last time, New Zealand defeated Australia in the final of an international cricket tournament was way back in the year 1981.

None of the players from current Australia and New Zealand's squad were even born then.
