Japan to build tallest wooden skyscraper

(MENAFN) A firm in Japan is planning to build the tallest wooden skyscraper in the world, to mark its 350th anniversary in 2041.

According to Sumitomo Forestry, 10 percent of the 70-storey W350 tower would be steel, combined with about 180,000 cubic meters of indigenous wood, with nearly 8,000 homes, and plants on all balconies.

The cost of the project is estimated at 600 billion yen, which is almost twice the cost of a traditional skyscraper of the same size.

However, Sumitomo expects costs to decrease before the building's 2041 scheduled completion date due to technological advances.
